INTROSPECTION

COLE GABRIEL-REBMANN

Introspection (Running Through My Mind) is a visual self reflection about Cole. This is my first self portrait other than graphite on paper. This visual represents the growth in mind, body, and spirit through introspection.

custom crewneck with sewn circular patches to represent my moles.
Some pockets, some filled with patches from childhood, money, and letters.

This was filmed in Glendale and La Canada, California. Each place having a significant role in my childhood. I was able to find self-confidence by going back and experiencing solitude as I filmed this. I never realized how much effort goes into shooting a video instead of a picture, especially by yourself. In what I always thought of as flaws, I was able to embrace my features and become the star of my own mini movie.
This film was purposely filmed to be three minutes and thirty three seconds at 113BPM. Three represents the growth of mind, body, and spirit. The garment I wear was also made by me to represent the moles on my face. The sweater consists of six circular pockets and patches. The music is also made by me that takes a sample from Ka’ikena Scanlan’s song “Smoke All Day” to reoresent my birth in Hawaii. The line repeated in the sample says, “E ho’omakaukau i ka’ai” which means prepare the food in Hawaiian.
